Atlantis Lands at Edwards NASA Public Affairs, February 20, 2001 The Space Shuttle Atlantis landed safely at Edwards Air Force Base in California today after mission controllers decided that thick clouds might interfere with a safe landing at the Kennedy Space Center. During their 13-day mission, Atlantis' crew delivered the U.S. laboratory module to the International Space Station. In addition to providing the cornerstone for scientific research aboard ISS, the lab houses computers that will control the Space Station's attitude. Atlantis touched down at 2:33 p.m. CST. In addition to installing the U.S. Destiny Laboratory Module, the five STS-98 astronauts relocated a docking port, delivered supplies and equipment to the Expedition One crew, and conducted three successful space walks. The Atlantis Crew consisted of Mission Specialists Robert Curbeam, Thomas Jones, and Marsha Ivins, Shuttle Commander Kenneth Cockrell, and Pilot Mark Polansky. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. |
