It’s about a snake that would make even an anaconda curl up in fear: The world’s largest python. After being discovered by an amateur enthusiast, biologists from FCOHS have collaborated with local governments to find out more about this massive serpent.
The World’s Largest Snake Has Been Discovered
When it comes to the world’s largest snake, there are many contenders. First and foremost, though, we can say with certainty that the world’s largest snake has been discovered. The discovery of this python was made by an amateur enthusiast – a man who has made it his life’s work to search for and document the world’s largest snakes. His name is Benny Hui, and it was on a recent expedition to Malaysia’s rainforests in search of giant pythons that he made his most stunning discovery to date: a reticulated python that is estimated to weigh upwards of 550 pounds. The fact that this python has been feeding on pigs for so long means that pythons have been thriving in this ecosystem, but it also means that populations are likely to have been thinned out. It’s possible that this python is at risk of starving if it can’t find more pigs to feed on, and it’s also possible that farmers will take action to protect their herds.
